How to Volunteer
Thank you for your interest in volunteering for Habitat for Humanity of Hernando County. We welcome individuals and groups from all over to work toward providing families of Hernando County with quality, affordable homeownership. Without volunteers there would be no Habitat!
We provide many forms of volunteer opportunities for everyone who wishes to help us further our mission. We accept volunteers that are 16 years of age and older. As we are a 501(c)3 organization we are an applicable organization for the Bright Futures Scholarship volunteer requirement. All volunteers sign a waiver, but ReStore and Construction volunteers must take a respective safety course. Event volunteers help at different points throughout the year, so a safety course isn’t required.
All volunteers 16-17 years of age must have adult supervision.
Habitat ReStores help by providing Habitat for Humanity the funds to build homes for families in our community with low income.
Your help in our ReStores will allow Habitat to provide safe, permanent shelter to people with low income. From sorting through donations to pricing merchandise, Habitat offers many volunteer opportunities in both our ReStores.
All of our Habitat homes are built by volunteers! Under the guidance of our construction supervisor, volunteers build our homes from the ground up. From the initial pour of the concrete to the final cleanup of the home, our volunteers are the backbone of our organization. Through volunteering on our construction site, our volunteers learn the skills of construction and maintenance while also providing self-empowerment.
Events are a fun way to raise money for our organization. If you would like to help us by attending events in our community or help us prepare for our own events, such as our annual “Raise the Roof!” Men Bake, we would love to have you on board!
We are always looking for help with set up, event running, and clean up!
Our ReStores are open from Tuesday through Saturday. The Brooksville ReStore is open from 9am – 5pm Tuesday through Friday
and 9am – 4pm on Saturday, while the Spring Hill ReStore is open from 9am – 4pm Tuesday through Saturday.
The construction site is open from Monday through Friday from 7am – 1pm. Due to the nature of construction, the schedule is subject to change. An email will be sent out every weekend to give the schedule for the work week ahead.
If you would like to set up a day with a group to volunteers in either our ReStores or our Construction sites, we would be happy to set up a Build Day event with you! All you need to do in order to get started is to fill out our volunteer safety waiver and take the respective safety course! Then, have your representative contact our office and send in the waivers and safety course completion emails to Carmela@habitathernando.org.
